    Perforations
A group show originating on 16mm - work by Rowena Crowe, Ryszard Dabek, Virginia Hilyard, Peter Humble, Geoff Weary.

2020 has been a year of sucker punches for many. A year beginning with catastrophic fires we hadn’t seen before, settling in for winding path of the COVID 19 pandemic, we talk of before times; a structure has been ruptured. These perforations have become our new time keeping.

The works that form this show, are all created to the rhythm of our machine time 16mm perforations. In the context we find ourselves these works also reference our new daily rhythms.

  • Window
    Window
Window was an Artist Film Workshop initiated project that invited artists across Australia to make a collaborative work during lockdown.
Taking inspiration from Hitchcock’s Rear Window, each filmmaker contributed one roll of black and white celluloid film shot through a window of their house, documenting the visual aspects particular to their confinement.
Moved to be amongst this crowd of analogue film makers, many of whom I have never met, to see our collective experience come together. Thankyou Windows!

  • Written on the Body
    Written on the Body
This film was exhibited as part of the Caring for Country exhibition at the Senic Rim Regional Gallery. The film was made by photographing tree trunks in intervals on a medium format film camera. After developing and scanning the film I animate the images in editing software. The accompanying soundtrack is perhaps a surprising choice, a recording of fish singing. Bringing these two unlikely elements together, one from the surface and another from the sea I show that nature is full of exaltation and exists in ways we cannot know but are lucky to glimpse. Sounds of fish were supplied by the Centre for Marine Science and Technology of Curtin University.
